I am currently sitting on the couch snuggling with my teddy bear because I cannot snuggle my cat because she is in the hospital.

She has been very sick for awhile, but I thought was getting better. We found out she had hyperthyroidism and started her on meds. Since then she's been her normal purr monster self. Today she had a month check up to see how she was taking to the new medication.

Supposed to be go to vet, get poked, go home, Kitty sulks for an hour and I go to work.

Nope!

Everything is normal until they go to draw blood. They put Kitty on her side and she starts breathing heavily. I've seen her breath like that many times before. It usually doesn't last long and then she goes back to normal. I never thought much of it because Kitty has always had some issues with her breathing. Since she showed up on our doorstep she's had a wheeze but we were always told it was not a problem and that her lungs were fine.

Well turns out that type of breathing is actually the kitty version of respiratory distress and her lungs are no longer fine. Now her lungs are crackling. The vet gets really serious and starts talking about putting Kitty on oxygen or taking her to the hospital. She starts says a bunch of scary things about how bad it is when cats breathe like this and that with the noise in the lungs she shouldn't go home until she's settled. They try using oxygen to bring the kitty back to normal but she doesn't respond the way the Vet hoped. Granted it was started due to stress and kitty was still REALLY stressed. She was meowing very plaintively whenever we touched her.

At the vets suggestion we get out of there to bring Kitty to the veterinarian hospital instead. Like, shooed out of the office without paying-get the hell out of here and get her in the oxygen chamber the second you get to the office. Seriously they called ahead so that they took Kitty right when I was signing in. At this point I called work saying I was going to be late because...seriously.

At the hospital now, the new vet seems a little calmer. Kitty now needs to spend the night with oxygen and they're going to run a bunch of other tests. I sign the paper work with the hope of getting my kitty back before the end of the day, they said they would call later.

So I leave and head off to work an hour late with mostly dry eyes. I have just pulled into the parking lot when the vet calls back. Kitty no longer just has respiratory distress, she now has heart failure. The best case scenario is that if this is all being caused by her hyperthyroidism it might go away when that is cured. The worst case scenario are in the words "if" and "might."

So the in and out vet visit turned into "hurry get the cat to the hospital" followed by "you can pick her up later today" then "you can pick her up tomorrow morning."

The nice thing the vet did was that when she was transferred to a different doctor they called me to introduce themselves and let me know what was going on with the kitty. The bad part was that "you can pick her up tomorrow morning" turned into "You can probably get her later in the day tomorrow."

I'm so worried about her. I haven't seen her since this morning, and I can only imagine how scared and confused she is. I want my kitty back.
